Dewar’s 18 years Old 75cl
After separate maturation, the whiskies in this blend (which are mostly owned by Dewar’s, such as Craigellachie, Aberfeldy, Macduff or Glen Deveron, Aultmore and Royal Brackla) are then married together in “exhausted” oak casks, giving rise to the title “double aged”. This might seem like a secondary step, but it is actually integral to the eventual flavour of this whisky.
On the nose, this whisky opens with typical Speyside notes of sweet oak, apples and pears, fresh hay, baking spice and slight barrel char. The palate is full of toasted, biscuit-y malt flavours, accompanied by clear honey, tinned peaches, dried fruit, and a faint hint of charcoaled oak. The finish is long, with baking spices, cut hay and oak lasting long. A superbly approachable blend, with enough complexity for even the most seasoned of whisky drinkers.
